Galicia. Processes and Shapes, the guest country programme of the Porto Design Biennale 2023, traces a path through the past, present and future of design from the perspective of Galicia, analysing, firstly, the antecedents from a series of companies that are paradigmatic in their commitment to design, through the presentation of pioneering examples in the fisheries sector, in thermal tourism and water marketing, in the pharmaceutical industry, in the automobile industry, in the textile industry or in telecommunications, and which ends with the initiatives of Luis Seoane and Isaac Díaz Pardo with the creation of the Laboratory of Forms and the recovery of the Sargadelos factory as the main paradigm of design as an engine of innovation in Galicia.

David Barro, commissioner and theoretician who has developed a career fundamentally associated with the universe of art and design, cultural innovation and sustainability, proposes a project that exposes ideas, processes and forms that, in turn, allow the recent history of design in Galicia to be made known, while at the same time opening up new perspectives and scenarios capable of renewing tradition and conferring uniqueness on innovation. Based on objects, examples of applied graphics, materials, innovative products, speculative design panels and audiovisual documents, the proposed curatorial programme combines history, knowledge and creative practices in the field of design in Galicia.

Galicia. Processes and Forms is supported by the Xunta de Galicia through Axencia Galega de Innovación, Fundación Artesanía de Galicia and Fundación DIDAC.
