The Children of Eos and Arachine's Loom

Two installations that call for reflection on artificial constructions capable of covering the world itself.

The children of Eos are raw forces that arose before humans, who want to understand and use them (and the wind is one of the most ancient). Arachne's web corresponds to the thrill of defying the gods and, as a result, permanently working on artificial constructs capable of covering the world itself. The Hard Design exhibition features a wind turbine blade on Avenida dos Aliados in Porto and one kilometer of fiber-optic cable in the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library, in Matosinhos. The blade was provided by ENERCON, a company that is responsible for more than half of the wind power produced in Portugal. The cable was provided by Altice, the country's largest telecommunications company. The blade is 41 meters long and weighs 8,200 kg. It was transported from near Viana do Castelo to Porto by the LASO company. After being on display for a week it will take up its place, alongside its two ‘sisters’, in a turbine installed on one of the company's wind farms. The kilometer of fiber-optic cable was gifted to the Port Design Biennale and is a tiny sample of the facilities that sweep across our country and the world.
