Porto Design Biennale 2019
March 12, 2019
The first edition of Porto Design Biennale will take place between September and December 2019 and aims to reinforce the role of the north region of Portugal as an organiser of large international design events. The event will be promoted by Porto City Council and Matosinhos City Council and will take place in several locations across the two cities.
The Biennale has two main aims. The first aim is to be an event, organised biannually, to promote design culture, its public debate, and the production of critical knowledge based in Portugal but with international repercussions. The second aim is to develop continuous research and dissemination of Portuguese and international design, enhancing the fusion of resources between disciplines, designer, enterprises, academia, industries, and diverse social sectors.
The Porto Design Biennale seeks to build a regular platform for the discussion and production of design knowledge, for the aggregation and professional valorisation of designers, to bring academia and industry closer together, to encourage the production and national and international divulgence of Portuguese design, thus contributing to overcome a context of constraint that the extinction of the Portuguese Design Centre or the closure of Experimentaldesign has highlighted.
