Porto Design Biennale 2021
September 01, 2021
Reflecting on different ways of living, questioning the concept of care, working with living materials and imagining societies of change. These were the premises that set the tone for the 54 days of the Porto Design Biennale 2021.

The theme Alter-Realities: Designing the Present, proposed by the general-curator Alastair Fuad-Luke, materialised in a series of exhibitions, workshops, installations and conversations that brought more than 8,600 visitors to the cities of Porto and Matosinhos, and online, where the Peripheral Perspectives colloquium, the podcast Voices from the Atelier and the Wild Talks dialogues added up to around 12,800 views. The main programme and the guest speakers' programme featured several exhibitions that ran through the theme and sub-themes defined by the curator-general.
Collectively, let's make sure that the deliberations of this edition continue to spark societies of change and the drawing of the present. The exhibition Museum of Vibrant Matter, one of the axes of this edition, will remain at the Casa do Design, in Matosinhos, until 3 October 2021. A temporal extension that also covers the Archive of Vibrant Matter, a physical collection with a digital dimension that invites us to be material explorers. The archive travels to the coastal city of Ferrol, Galicia, occupying the exhibition space of CIS Tecnoloxia e Deseño until 28 November 2021.
