Reflection on the impact of climate change on water bodies is promoted through a series of activities comprising a workshop, story activation and a cooking session. Participants are invited to combine techniques of creative expression and personal narratives in a critical thinking exercise about food and our relationship with the sea.
PROGRAMME
10.11.2023 - 10 am — 6 pm
Dive into Memories
Exploratório Porto Design Biennale
Join Salt Traces at Exploratório Porto Design Biennale for a special experience where the sea meets stories! Here’s how it will work: There’ll be a table filled with sea themed objects. But before you pick one, share a quick story about your favorite water body. It could be a beach day, a lake adventure, or a river memory or anything else you find worth sharing. We want to hear what makes your connection with water bodies special. These objects then become vessels for your cherished memories, forever holding the essence of your favorite water bodies.
11.11.2023 - 2 pm — 4 pm
Subjective Mapping Workshop
Exploratório Porto Design Biennale
We invite you to join us in the workshop and create maps of the water bodies you have spent time with or feel a strong connection to. These maps should reflect your typical navigation of these environments, the activities you engage in, and the experiences, emotions, values, personal preferences, and details that have shaped your memories of these water bodies.
We will also encourage you to explore the food you consumed during your visits to these water bodies. Have your eating habits have changed? Is the food you used to enjoy near the water body still accessible? During the workshop, participants will be encouraged to express themselves through drawing, collage, or any other accessible medium they feel comfortable with.
12.11.2023 - 12:00 — 18:00
Cooking session - Seasalt Secrets and Food Memories
Exploratório Porto Design Biennale
Ever wonder if the salt in your pasta has a story? Did you know it might be linked to the sea you grew up by? This a speculative fact from one of the chefs that we follow, but it will also serve a storyline for this cooking session. Join us on Nov 12th as we cook up nostalgia, celebrating the flavors we’ve savored by water bodies. From watermelon with cheese and salted corn to vegan caviar, we will recreate cherished shore-side delights together.
